The Las Cruces Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, serving southern New Mexico, provides those interested in pipe organs with a chance to improve their knowledge and skills and to exchange information. Activities include regular meetings during the academic year, an annual "Pedals, Pipes and Pizza" for young musicians, and a "Members' Recital".
Two AGO Las Cruces Chapter members, Steve Helmreich and Karen Billings, have been certified as Colleague of the American Guild of Organists (denoted by the acronym CAGO).
The National AGO PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM dates from 1896, when the Guild received its charter from the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York to administer a comprehensive series of examinations for professional certification. ... [The exam tests] competence in a number of skills that an organist uses regularly, such as hymn playing, accompanying, and sight-reading, Approximately 10% of the national AGO membership is certified. We congratulate these two organists for their hard work in achieving this certification.

Spring Member Recital

The spring organ recital of the Las Cruces Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be at 3 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. St. Andrews is at 518 N. Alameda Blvd, Las Cruces. Organ Music will include pieces by Franck, J.S. Bach, Pachelbel, and William Walond.
There will be no admission charge, but a free will offering will be taken.
